Student Chapter Events
Student Chapter Summit
The MCA Canada Student Chapter Summit brings students from chapters across Canada together for professional development, innovation, and industry connection.
Hosted in a different city each year, the summit features workshops, site tours, industry networking events, and a student competition. Students gain exposure to different approaches, learn from industry professionals, and connect with peers who share an interest in the future of mechanical contracting.
Student Competition
As an official member of the MCAA Student Chapter network, the MCAM Student Chapter competes alongside 29 other chapters in a practical, real-world estimating and bid submission competition.
Students receive a tender package and develop a comprehensive bid submission using industry tools, including Procore and Trimble software. Their submission includes:
- The history and background of a fictional contracting company
- Company financial information
- Project team resumes
- A project estimate
- A project schedule
- Potential value-added engineering opportunities
The competition gives students practical experience with the planning, estimating, coordination, and business considerations involved in preparing a mechanical contracting bid.
The top four teams advance to present their submissions on stage at the MCAA annual convention. Since joining the MCAA network in 2024, the MCAM Student Chapter has earned 6th place overall at the 2025 convention and 8th place overall at the 2026 convention.
These results reflect the chapter's commitment to learning, collaboration, and developing the next generation of talent for the mechanical industry.
Student Chapter Speed Interviewing
The annual MCAM Student Chapter Speed Interviewing event connects students with mechanical contractors, associate members, and consultants to explore potential summer employment opportunities.
Students have the opportunity to introduce themselves, discuss their interests, and learn more about the organizations and career paths within the industry. For employers, it provides a direct way to meet emerging talent, identify potential candidates, and begin building relationships with future engineers.
The event helps turn industry connections into practical experience, giving students an opportunity to apply what they are learning while gaining valuable insight into the work behind mechanical contracting.
