Composition

The board is comprised of a cross-section of the mechanical industry, ensuring the perspective of the entire industry. The board of directors has created and adheres to policy which outlines a critical skills matrix. The matrix includes union, non-union, rural, urban, residential, commercial, institutional, industrial, constructor and service contractors, the various mechanical trades, sub-trades as well as key business and governance competencies and values. The board of directors analyzes their collective skills to ensure shortfalls are addressed by new board members.

2025/2026 Executive

Wayne McKenzie (Randall Plumbing & Heating)
President
Membership Committee Chair

Wayne has served on MCAM's Board of Directors since 2014. He is the President of Randall Plumbing, where he has built a career over the past 32 years. A graduate of Red River College with a diploma in Business Administration, Wayne is also a certified Journeyman Plumber. His leadership at Randall Plumbing is driven by a strong commitment to continuous improvement through mentorship, education, and training aimed at fostering both employee growth and company success.

Wayne believes in doing things right the first time. As he puts it, "If you're going to do something, do it right the first time or don't bother doing it at all."

Among his favourite MCAM events are the President's Ball and the Annual Golf Tournament, where he enjoys connecting with industry peers and supporting the association's initiatives.

James Kopec (Bornhorst Mechanical Inc.)
1st Vice President
Education Committee Chair

James has been a member of the MCAM Board of Directors since 2009. He is the General Manager at Bornhorst Mechanical Inc., where he oversees operations and project management.

James earned his Red Seal Certification in Plumbing in 1997 and achieved his Gold Seal Certification as a Superintendent in 2009. He is actively involved in the industry as Chair of the Apprenticeship Provincial Trade Advisory Committee for Gas Fitters and has extensive experience in estimating, field work, and managing projects across Manitoba.

Originally from the Interlake region, James enjoys spending time outdoors, particularly hunting and farming. His favourite MCAM event is the President's Ball. He lives by the motto: "Measure twice and cut once."

Chris Derksen (Derksen Plumbing & Heating)
2nd Vice President

Chris has been a member of the MCAM Board of Directors since 2014. He is a graduate of Red River College and became General Manager of Derksen Plumbing and Heating at the age of 30. At 26, he successfully managed his first mechanical project valued at over $7 million.

Chris is recognized for bringing forward important industry issues and contributing to strategic discussions at the Board level. His leadership reflects a commitment to both operational excellence and industry advancement.

Outside of work, Chris enjoys following the NFL's Houston Texans and doesn't shy away from a good laugh at his own expense. His favourite MCAM event is the President's Ball. A quote he lives by is, "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take." - Wayne Gretzky.

Andy Taylor (Cobbe's Plumbing & Heating)
Treasurer

Andy has served on the MCAM Board of Directors since 2012. He is the General Manager of Cobbe's Plumbing and Heating in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, where he has worked for over 34 years. Andy began his career at Cobbe's directly after high school and has played a key role in the company's long-term growth and operations.

In addition to his role at MCAM, Andy served on the Board of the Rural Construction Association for four years, contributing to the advancement of construction practices in rural Manitoba.

Julien Lafleche (ServcoCanada)
Past President

Julien has been a member of the MCAM Board of Directors since 2014 and served as President from 2021 to 2024. He is the President and CEO of ServcoCanada, where he oversees contracts, estimation, planning, scheduling, procurement, and project management.

With 24 years of industry experience, Julien's career began early, spending high school summers working as a civil contractor before transitioning to an apprentice steamfitter. His deep expertise and passion for the mechanical contracting industry have been central to his leadership.

Outside of work, Julien enjoys spending quality time with his wife and two daughters. He is actively involved in supporting their goals, whether through coaching in academics, life skills, hockey, or golf. Julien values family time at the rink, on the golf course, or relaxing at the lake.

Cory Ball (Mikkelsen-Coward & Co)
Director at Large

Cory Ball is a highly experienced professional in building automation, with over 15 years of expertise. He started as an electrical apprentice and obtained his Red Seal Electrical License from Red River College. Currently serving as the Vice President for Manitoba and Saskatchewan at Mikkelsen-Coward, Cory has managed multi-million-dollar projects. His passion for adding value to clients and helping them achieve their energy savings and net zero goals is evident in his work.

By implementing innovative solutions and out-of-the-box thinking, Cory ensures that clients receive the best possible service and optimal outcomes. Beyond his project management skills, Cory possesses a keen interest in complex integrated projects and stays at the forefront of new technologies. His commitment to continuous learning enables him to incorporate the latest advancements into his work, providing cutting-edge solutions to clients. Cory is also actively involved in industry associations, having served as the MCAM Next Gen Advisory Council Chair and on the Board of Directors for the Canadian System Integrators Association (CSIA).

Shawn Henry (Wescan)

Shawn has served on the MCAM Board of Directors since 2014. He is the General Manager at Wescan Construction Services. Shawn earned his Red Seal Plumbing certification and B license from Red River College in 2005.

His favourite MCAM event is the Golf Tournament. Shawn approaches his work with a forward-thinking mindset and often cautions against complacency, noting that the most dangerous phrase is, "It is the way we have always done it." He also expresses a strong commitment to his career and hopes to never retire.

Brad has been a member of the MCAM Board of Directors since 2001. He is the Principal and Founding Partner of ServcoCanada and brings over 35 years of supervisory experience across all phases of the industrial construction industry.

Brad is a strong advocate for a workplace culture that empowers individuals to apply their skills effectively and think creatively, while aligning with the company's vision and values. His leadership goal is to foster an environment where employees take pride in being part of ServcoCanada.

Deeply committed to corporate social responsibility, Brad actively supports initiatives that strengthen communities and contributes to a number of charitable and community-based organizations.

Ilona Rondeau (EMCO)

Ilona has served on the MCAM Board of Directors since 2006. She has worked in the construction industry since high school and has been with Emco Corporation since 1988. Since 2000, she has held the role of Profit Centre Manager, leading operations and business development.

As Chair of MCAM's Social Committee, Ilona plays a key role in organizing the association's signature events, including the President's Ball, Golf Tournament, and Pioneer Night.

Ilona also brings valuable experience from her involvement in community organizations. She has served as Secretary for the Anola Métis Local and has worked with Ndaawin to help develop educational initiatives aimed at raising awareness of the sexual exploitation of inner-city children and youth.

Larry Stefanec (Parson's Plumbing & Heating)

Larry has been a member of the MCAM Board of Directors since 2017. He began his career in the mechanical trades in 1992 with Dual Mechanical Ltd. in British Columbia, earning his Red Seal Plumbing certification and Gas Fitter B License in 1996.

Larry has held a range of roles in the commercial mechanical industry, including Site Supervisor, Project Manager, and Field Manager. He has also completed several management and accounting courses, including Gold Seal Certification as a Site Supervisor. In 2003, he joined Parsons Plumbing and Heating Ltd. in Winnipeg and became the owner of the company in 2014.

Outside of work, Larry participates in adventure racing, a sport that involves biking, orienteering, canoeing, and hiking in wilderness settings, often as part of a team and over long durations. He trains regularly and includes his family in the experience.

Larry believes strongly in the value of MCAM, emphasizing the importance of shared learning and collaboration to better prepare for future challenges and to support the continued strength of Manitoba's mechanical contracting industry.

Travis Clarke (BPL Sales)

Golf Committee Chair

Travis has served on the MCAM Board of Directors since 2010. He is the President of BPL Sales Ltd. and President of Dynamic Building Control.

Travis graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Commerce in 2002, after completing two years in the Faculty of Engineering. He began his career as an apprentice plumber with Parsons Plumbing and Heating before taking time to travel through Australia and Southeast Asia. In 2006, at the age of 28, he became a Partner and President of BPL Sales Ltd.

Travis is focused on leading successful businesses while maintaining a strong work-life balance. Being a husband and father are priorities he values as highly as his professional responsibilities.

His favourite MCAM event is the Annual Golf Tournament, and he lives by the motto, "Work smarter, not harder."

Scott Hammond (SMS Engineering)

Associates Advisory Council Chair

Striving to not be your typical engineer, Scott focuses his practice on high-performance buildings and finding ways to transform them while remaining cost effective. Originally starting in the industry wearing a contractor's hardhat, he now is experienced in a wide range of multi-disciplinary planning, design and construction projects. As a Partner with SMS Engineering Scott was named to the Consulting-Specifying Magazine's international Top 40 Under 40 list in 2014. Some of his favourite projects include the Winnipeg Air Terminal Building, Canada Life's Winnipeg campus redevelopment, IG Field and now the new Portage District Hospital.

Jennifer Lowe (Lowe Mechanical)

Jennifer Lowe is the President of Lowe Mechanical Services and has been with the company for over 22 years. She brings a strong background in business and finance, with a degree in Business Administration and Management from the University of Manitoba, along with her CGA designation in Accounting and Finance from CPA Manitoba. Jennifer joined the MCAM Board of Directors in 2023.

Dan Olson (ABCO Supply & Service)

City of Winnipeg Industry Working Group Representative

Dan been a member of the MCAM Board of Directors since 2009 and served as President from 2018 to 2020. He has been with ABCO Supply & Service Ltd. for 25 years and currently serves as the Service Division Manager.

Dan earned his Journeyman certification in Plumbing and Pipefitting from Red River College in 1989. Over the course of his 37-year career in the mechanical trades, he has held a wide range of roles including Apprentice, Plumber, Pipefitter, Foreman, Gas Fitter, Estimator, Project Manager, Controller, and more. He also holds a Plumbing Contractor's License, Craning License, and a Class 1 Driver's License.

Dan values the role MCAM plays in keeping contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and industry partners connected. He regularly participates in monthly meetings and enjoys events such as the Annual Golf Tournament and the President's Ball.

He believes in the importance of preparation and lives by the saying: "Planning is working. Always take the time to plan it out thoroughly-at home or at work-the outcome will prove it."

Ryan Levesque (East Side Ventilation)
Director at Large

Ryan is the General Manager at East Side Ventilation. He commenced his training and career in the residential sector in 2006. Shortly after enrolling in an apprenticeship program, he transitioned into the commercial aspect of the Sheet Metal Industry. Having earned a Red Seal in Sheet Metal from RRC in 2012, Ryan went on to work as a foreman/site superintendent for five years before assuming the role of Project Manager. His current responsibilities include design builds, estimating, and project management.

Beyond the professional sphere, Ryan can often be found indulging in activities such as golfing, fishing from his boat, or cherishing quality moments with his wife and two children, all in no particular order.

Ryan McWhirter (A&B Mechanical)
Director at Large

Ryan McWhirter is an Owner and Controller of A&B Mechanical Ltd. He became a partner in the business in 2024, bringing with him a strong background in finance, entrepreneurship, and operational leadership. Ryan earned his Bachelor of Business Administration from Okanagan College in 2011 and received his CPA (CA) designation in 2014. His career includes a range of roles in finance and consulting, including founding his own accounting and consulting company in 2018.

Ryan has also worked closely on large-scale projects, most notably supporting a client involved in the LNG Canada development in Kitimat, BC; the largest private investment in Canadian history. Outside of work Ryan loves being on the rink playing hockey in the winter or on the ball diamond in the summer, and is always prepared for a good round of golf!

Lenny Lopushniuk (Trotter & Morton)
Director at Large

Lenny Lopushniuk followed in his Grandpa's footsteps and graduated from South Winnipeg Technical College in 1998 as an Industrial Maintenance Technician. He further obtained his Red Seal Industrial Mechanics (Millwright) accreditation and CWB welder certification. With over 20 years of experience in the industry, Lenny has held various roles, including onsite execution, estimating, project management, and currently works as the Construction Manager at Trotter and Morton Industrial Contracting. He joined Trotter and Morton in 2015 after successfully estimating and securing the company's inaugural project in Manitoba.

Lenny actively contributes to the industry as a member of the inter-provincial Millwright red seal examination review committee and takes pleasure in mentoring newcomers to the industry. Lenny believes to be successful you need to "work hard, be transparent and be fair." Outside of work, he enjoys outdoor activities, playing baseball, curling, and volunteering with his two sons' sports teams.

Robert Thain (Black & McDonald)

Robert Thain is the Projects Division Manager at Black & McDonald Limited. With over 35 years of experience at the company, he has excelled in various roles ranging from service contract sales to energy conservation audits. However, his true passion lies in project management, which he considers the most fulfilling aspect of his career. Robert is a Professional Engineer with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Manitoba. He further advanced his skills with a Certificate in Management and Administration from the Canadian Institute of Management.

As a testament to his expertise in project management, Robert is certified as a CCA Gold Seal professional. Robert believes in leading by example, finding joy in work and accomplishments, and helping others succeed. For Robert, the people he works with hold greater importance than the machinery they work on. The individuals Robert has collaborated with to successfully complete projects leave a longer lasting impression than the project itself. He served as the President of MCAM from 2013 to 2015, further showcasing his leadership.

Justin Albo (CGM Engineering)

Justin Albo, is a Mechanical Engineer with CGM Engineering, where he has been a key member of the team for over nine years. Since joining the firm in 2016, he has contributed to a broad portfolio of projects, including multi-unit residential developments, commercial retail spaces, restaurants, and fuel service stations. Justin holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Manitoba and obtained his Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation through Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba in 2017.

He is actively involved in the engineering community, having previously served as President of the ASHRAE Manitoba Chapter and currently serving on its regional committee. Outside of his professional pursuits, Justin is enthusiastic about hockey and pickleball. He values the grounding presence of his family, whose support and shared experiences continue to inspire both his personal and professional life.

Mike Troschuk (East Side Ventilation)

Mike is a Senior Estimator at East Side Ventilation, where he has been a valued team member since 1998. With over 25 years of experience in the sheet metal and ventilation industry, Mike brings a strong understanding of mechanical systems and project estimating to his role.

In 2024, Mike joined the MCAM Board of Directors as the representative for the Manitoba Association of Sheet Metal and Air Handling Contractors Inc. He is committed to contributing to the advancement of the mechanical contracting industry in Manitoba through collaboration and industry engagement.

Tony Mohammed (Air Movement)

Next Gen Representative

Tony has served on the MCAM Board of Directors since 2015. He graduated from Red River College in 1983 and began his career with Air Movement Services that same year. In 1997, after successfully completing his TBS exam, Tony became a Partner and General Manager of the company.

With decades of industry experience, Tony continues to lead with a focus on operational excellence and long-term growth. Outside of work, he is a passionate food enthusiast who enjoys exploring new culinary experiences.

Nolan Shortridge (Jones Goodridge)
CIPH Representative

Nolan joined the MCAM Board of Directors in 2020. He has been actively involved with MCAM for over a decade and represents the Canadian Institute of Plumbing & Heating (CIPH) on the Board.

Nolan is a part-owner and the Commercial Manager at Jones Goodridge, where he plays a key role in business development and operations. Among his professional achievements, he has served as President of CIPH Manitoba and continues to contribute to the growth of the industry as a business owner and leader.

Outside of work, Nolan enjoys vegetable gardening and is always eager to learn new things. His favourite MCAM events include the Golf Tournament and the President's Ball. He is guided by the philosophy: "Be kind to everyone because you don't know what battles they are fighting."

Cory Gray (Thermo Applicators)
MICA Representative

Cory is an Estimator at Thermo Applicators, where he has been a dedicated team member since 2003. With over two decades of experience in the thermal insulation industry, Cory brings deep technical knowledge and a strong understanding of project estimating and execution.

He joined the MCAM Board of Directors in 2024 as the representative for the Manitoba Insulation Contractors Association (MICA). Cory also serves on the Board of Directors for the Thermal Insulation Association of Canada, further supporting industry standards and collaboration at the national level.

Cory is committed to advancing the mechanical insulation sector through leadership and industry engagement.

Curtis Van Damme (South West Fire)
CASA Representative

Curtis joined the MCAM Board of Directors in 2020. A graduate of Red River College, Curtis has over 22 years of experience in the sprinkler industry. He currently serves as President of Southwest Fire Protection Ltd., a position he has held for more than seven years.

Through his involvement with MCAM, Curtis aims to help position the mechanical trades fairly within the market.Curtis represents the Canadian Automatic Sprinkler Association on the MCAM Board.

Governance

The Board of Directors governs the affairs of the association through oversight, insight and foresight functions. These functions are outlined in the Association By-laws and further developed through Board Policy.

Oversight

To monitor the activities of the association, ensuring they are performed appropriately, creating a foundation for the association. These functions fulfill the Board's fiduciary duty to the membership.

Insight

The ability to see clearly and intuitively into the nature of an issue or subject and provide an opinion based on personal experience and/or the information provided. This fulfills the Boards generative purpose to the membership.

Foresight

To consider future potential issues, obstacles, and goals; and address them by creating a responsive framework. These functions fulfill the Board's strategic duty to the membership.
